Privacy Policy
Duck & Cache ("the app") works offline. It has no user accounts, no ads and no tracking of what you read or search. This page explains the small amount of data that does leave your device and why.
What stays on your device
- Everything you download (maps, Wikipedia packs, files, AI models) and everything you do with it: searches, saved places, routes, AI chats, downloaded-item lists.
- Your language and optional region of interest. You can choose them by typing a place or using GPS. They are stored only on your phone and used to suggest packs.
- Your location. If you allow location access, it is used on the device to show you on the map and to find nearby places. It is not sent to us.
- AI assistant. The language model runs on your phone. Your messages are not sent anywhere.
- Diagnostic event log. The app keeps a short log of what it did (downloads, errors) on the device to help fix bugs. It is only shared if you choose to send it.
What is sent to other parties
- Our file server. When you download a pack, your phone requests it from our servers (hosted on Cloudflare). Like any web server, it receives your IP address and the file requested. We do not link this to a person.
- Place search. When you type a city or country while choosing a region, the text you typed is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim search service to find matches.
- Purchases. The one-time unlock is sold through Google Play or the Apple App Store. Our purchase provider, RevenueCat, receives purchase information and a random anonymous app ID to confirm whether the unlock is active, and may receive the install source described below. We do not see your payment details or your name.
- Install source. If you arrived through a link from a creator or campaign, the app records which link it was (for example a campaign name) so we can measure which links work and credit creators. We use Google Play's install referrer and an attribution provider, AppsFlyer, for this. They may process device identifiers, your IP address and install time for that purpose. Opting out of ad personalization in your device settings limits identifier use.
- Notifications. The app can show a notification while a download runs. These are created on your device.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
- We do not ask for your name, email or phone number inside the app.
- We do not read your files, chats, location history or searches.
Retention and your choices
- Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device. You can also delete individual downloads in the app.
- Server logs are kept only for as long as needed to operate and secure the service.
- Purchase records are kept by Google, Apple and RevenueCat under their own policies. To ask about data tied to your anonymous app ID, or any other privacy question, write to us at the address below.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's store listing.
